 When can I start classes?

You can start classes anytime. Classes work on a rolling syllabus which means there are no start or end dates. For example if you start on week 2 of the syllabus you would finish your course in week 1 of the syllabus. Each class is setup so that everyone works on the basic steps in the first 20 minutes so that you are constantly improving your basic steps. In the next 40 minutes of the class we teach everyone a new fundamental.

How do I register for a class?

Class Information

 What is the male/female ratio?

We always register even number of males to females to ensure everyone has a dance partner. In cases where students are away and can't make a class we have student helpers and teaching assistants to fill in as a leaders and followers.

What is the age range of your students?

We have students of all ages and background that attend our classes. The average age of our students range from 25 to 45 years of age.

What is the minimum age to register for classes?

The minimum age to register for any of our dance classes is 16 years of age. Anyone registering below the age of 16 years old requires an adult supervisor to register with them.

Can I switch to level 2 if level 1 is too easy?

If there are spots available in our level 2 class you are more than welcome to switch class. We use a dance card system which tracks how many classes you've attended. If there is room left on your card you are allowed to take a level 2 class.

What can I do if I miss a class?

Missing a dance class will not be an issue because we use dance cards. The dance cards keep track of how many classes you have remaining to use.

How many dance levels are there?

Levels 1 through 4 are beginner fundamentals. After the beginner class you will move on to our intermediate and advanced level classes.

Are private lessons or group lessons better?

Private lessons help accelerate your learning process because it’s detailed coaching with an instructor dedicated to you. 100% of the focus is on you, whereas in a group setting the instructors attention must be divided among all the students registered. Instructors can pin point your individual trouble areas immediately in private lessons. In addition, you are able to go at your own pace. Both group dance lessons & private dance lessons are excellent ways to learn how to dance. The choice is different for everyone based on dance goals, budget, and if you are comfortable dancing in large groups or if you prefer to work one-on-one. It’s a personal choice. Ideally, a balanced dance plan of both group & private lessons would be the ultimate choice for learning the quickest. This will accelerate learning further because you get specific instruction & technique in private lessons, then, have the ability to practice lead & follow with several different partners in the group setting.

What is the difference between salsa on1 and salsa on2?

Salsa ON 1 is the primary dance of salsa that you will find at the Salsa Clubs. Salsa ON2 is new style of dance invented in NYC which has been adopted by many advanced to professional dancers. The main difference between salsa on1 and salsa on2 is the timing of each steps. Salsa On1 the men start by going forward on the 1. Salsa On2 the men start going back on the 2 beat. All the dance steps in salsa are the same except for the timing of the steps to the music. Must beginner dancers and salsa club dancers dance Salsa ON1 also known as LA style salsa. We teach Salsa ON1 for beginners level 1 to level 3.

What is the difference between urban Bachata and Dominican style Bachata?

Urban Style Bachata is the most popular style of Bachata dancing in Toronto Clubs which involves closed position and fun Bachata turn patterns. Most Bachata dancers dance urban style Bachata. Dominican style Bachata is a style of Bachata usually danced in open position and is characterized by intricate footwork, simple steps and is usually danced to Dominican style Bachata music. Both style of Bachata dancing is fun and easy to learn.

I’m not sure what level I should start at?

We always recommend that all our students start off at our beginner level classes and work their way up to our advanced classes. This will help you learn all the basic fundamental steps that are required in our advanced classes. There should be no hurry or rush to learn as practice and time are the only ways to get better as a dancer.

 Can I videotape the classes?

Video taping of classes is allowed. We usually allocated 5 minutes at the end of each class for students to record the instructor performing the moves that were taught in class.

I can't make my usual class day. Can I join the other beginner class on the other day?

Your dance cards that you are given at the first day of class allows you to move from one class to another. This means you are FREE to take any classes that is available.

Where can I practice after my class?

You can practice salsa or Bachata dancing at your practice. We typically have a 2 hr practice session at the end of each month for students to practice moves and steps they've learned in class. We also host monthly socials to some of Toronto most popular Latin salsa and Bachata night clubs. We encourage all our students to come out and dance with other students.

I registered with a partner. Will I have to rotate partners in class?

This is really up to you if you want to rotate and be a part of the class. If you wish to only dance with each other you will be put to the side of the class to avoid rotation. We highly recommend that you do join in on the rotation as you will be able to dance with better leaders and followers who will be able to correct you and help you improve much faster. Two beginner students are less likely to improve quickly than a beginner student with a more experience dancer.

Dance Partners & Couples

Do I need a partner to register for class?

You do not need a partner to register for our dance classes. Most people come to class alone and meet other people. You will be paired up in class to give you a chance to dance with all sorts of people.

Will I have a partner in class?

You will have a partner in all your classes. We rotate partners every 5 minutes to give you a different experience in leading and following. We have student helpers that are in class to fill in when someone is away or when we are short people. .

I already have a partner do I have to rotate?

For students that come to class with partners. You do not have to rotate as long as you let the instructor know ahead of time so that you're not in the rotation. We recommend that all students rotate to give yourself the best opportunity to dance with better dancers. This is the fastest way to learn. Two weak dancers really don't help each other out.

We are a couple and would like to dance together?

If you are a couple and wish to only dance with each, that is fine as well. Please let the instructor know that you are lovebirds and you will be put outside the rotation line so as to not rotate with other students. We have a few lovebirds in each of our classes.

Drop In Classes

How do drop in classes work?

Drop in classes allow you to take our dance classes on a pay as your go basis. Each class cost $20 a person. You can save more money when you purchase our 10 or 20 class dance cards. 10 Classes for $160 and 20 Classes for $280.

What drop in classes do you offer?

We over salsa drop in classes as well as Bachata drop in classes. You can drop into any class you wish.

Do I need to register for drop in classes?

You do not need to register for drop in classes. You just show up to the class and tell the instructor you wish to take classes on a drop in basis. You pay your $20 drop in fee and you're set to take the class.

Do I need a partner for drop in classes?

You do not need a partner to take any of our classes. When you arrive to class you will be paired up with a partner. During class partners are rotated to give everyone a chance to dance with someone different.

Will you have space in your drop in class for me?

We always have space for drop in classes unless it says sold out on our class page. In most cases you will be fine to show up to class on a drop in basis.

Can I reserve spots for the drop-in classes?

Your spot is reserved in class once you make payment or purchase a 10 or 20 class dance cards. Dance cards allow you to attend all classes on a guarantee basis.

Dance Card Systems

How do the dance cards work?

When you register for a class you will receive a 10 or 20 class dance card depending on which package you register for. The dance cards keep track of your class progress and let us know how many classes you've taken. When you've completed all 10 classes you should be ready to move onto the next level of class. If you miss a class because you were away you don't lose any class credit. Each time you attend a class your dance card is hole punched. If you don't attend a class your card doesn't get hole punched. This ensure you get all 10 classes on your schedule.

What are the cost of the dance cards?

We offer 10 and 30 class dance cards.

1 Drop in Class: $20

10 Class Card: $160 ($16/Class)

30 Class Card: $300 ($10/Class)

 When do the cards expire?

The dance cards expire after 1 year of receiving your card. We believe you should have ample opportunities to complete your 10 class dance card well within a year.

Where can I buy dance cards?

You can purchase your dance card online when you register or in person at the dance studio. If you register online your will receive your dance card on the first day of class. If you pay in person you should receive your dance card immediately.

Can I share my cards with friends?

Our dance cards can be used towards your friends and family. When you take our dance classes with your friend we will punch your dance card twice.

How do I get my class card?

If you registered for class online you will receive it on the first day of class. If you registered in class you will receive your dance card immediately.

Clothing, Attire & Footwear

What should I wear to class?

Dancing is exercise – be prepared to sweat by wearing comfortable clothing. Dancers layer their clothes to stay comfortable. Wear smooth bottomed shoes to easily turn and pivot. Ladies that decide to continue dancing beyond level 1 will need dance shoes. Talk to your instructor and we will arrange to have some shoes available for you to try on.  (dance shoes fit differently than street shoes)

Do I need special dance shoes?

We suggest wearing shoes that are very comfortable and allow you to move easily on hardwood. Avoid wearing running shoes as they tend to stick to hardwood and put a lot of stress on your knees when spinning. Most experience dancers will wear dance heels and dance shoes with suede bottoms. As a beginner student, we don't recommend wearing dance heels in your first course as you are still learning to balance and make complicated steps. Wearing heels is recommended for students in our level 2 salsa or Bachata classes.

Do ladies need to wear heels and skirts?

Ladies do not need to wear heels or skirts. Most people in our beginner class wear jeans and flats while in our level 2 classes most ladies wear heels. Heels make you look graceful, taller and can help in your balance, turns and overall dancing. We recommend ladies wearing heels in our level 2 classes after you've gotten more experience with the basic steps.

Should I wear jewellery to class?

Avoid wearing jewellery, such as earrings, rings, watches and necklaces, which can scratch you or get caught in clothing.

Where can I buy dance shoes for class?

Toronto offers many places to buy dance shoes for men and women. Most dance shoes can be bought online or at a local dance store. Contact us for our recommendations.

Private Salsa / Bachata Lessons

 How do private lessons work?

Private Salsa and Bachata dance lessons are, quite possibly the biggest advantage for beginners learning to dance Bachata. The instructor will provide you with the personalized attention you need and direct 100% of their attention to you. Private dance lessons offer greater improvement in a comparable period of time. Whether you chose to learn on your own or with a partner, your dance lessons will always be focused on the specific material that interests you. You will learn through a style of teaching that suits you best, and at your own pace.

How much do private lessons cost?

Maximum of 2 People. Includes Studio Rental

1 Private Lesson / $100 (1 Hour)
3 Private Lessons / $285 (3 Hours)
10 Private Lessons / $900 (10 Hours)

What are the Benefits of Private Dance Lessons?
Private dance lessons are a great way to rapidly improve your dancing. With one-on-one instruction, we can help you improve the look, style and feel of your dancing in a way that group classes cannot accomplish. Because we have the opportunity to dance with you and/or coach you and your partner, you get exactly what you need in the way that you learn best. We can help you accomplish goals customized for your needs.

You can learn 3-4 times faster than group lessons.
You can focus on what YOU want to learn.
You receive immediate feedback from your instructor.
You feel how technique works for lead or follow instead of just listening and watching.
You progress at your own pace.
Lessons are booked according to your schedule
You can make up missed group lessons
You can have choreography or dance patterns customized to maximize your strengths.
The private dance lesson provides a discreet environment where you can ask questions you may not want to ask in front of a large group.

What if I do have a partner? Can we take lessons together?

Yes, you can take your private lessons together as dance partners. Many people prefer to take private lessons with a partner so they have someone to practice with for free afterwards. A private lesson costs the same for one person as for two. Partners can also split the cost of the lesson between them, reducing the lesson price by half.

Do I need a dance partner to take private lessons?

You don't need a partner to take private dance lessons. We will dance with you so that you have an opportunity to learn the lead or follow role that you desire. Private lessons are an excellent way to improve your dancing skills and ability to lead or follow. If you can lead or follow well, it is more likely that you will be able to find a partner to practice and dance with, because you will be fun to dance with. But, there are many dance parties available where people change partners all night long, so it isn't necessary for you to have a regular partner to be able to dance. Private lessons can help you learn to dance with the many different types of leaders and followers.

Can I take private lessons with my partner?

Yes, you can take your private lessons together as dance partners. Many people prefer to take private lessons with a partner so they have someone to practice with for free afterwards. A private lesson costs the same for one person as for two. Partners can also split the cost of the lesson between them, reducing the lesson price by half.
